Copper pipe for bathtub faucet too short! Would this work?

We bought a set screw faucet set for the our newly remodeled (and just finished tiling) bathroom. The 1/2" copper pipe coming out of the wall is only an inch long, and we need a minimum of two for the faucet to fit. The obvious thing would be go from the back and just replace the tube in the fitting, but the back wall is plaster/lath and in the middle of the living room. So needless to say it would be costly, difficult, and something we aren't prepared to do just yet.

Would this be an alternative fix? http://ift.tt/1KtM9bH
