Remove half of wall or all of wall?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated -

We just bought a house, and are looking at some changes.

Our kitchen and family room are directly next to each other. I would like to take half of the wall out, and add a breakfast bar to the wall, that would also be in view of the family room.

My wife would like to take the entire wall out.

I've attached some pictures. I'm assuming the answer is yes, but should we simply get a quote from a general contractor? Also, would it be more beneficial to simply remove the entire wall? I would like a bit of separation, and would prefer not to have to make floor adjustments as well. Finally, I'm wondering if there would be any huge issues to do this, based on just looking at it. My assumptions would be issues with load bearing and electrical.
